Caravanning in the Yorkshire Dales
Back in September 2019 we purchased our first ever caravan. Paul went on loads of holidays as a kid in a caravan with his parents and has always wanted to own one. However, It took ages/years to persuade me to get one. I always wanted a campervan. ALWAYS as I thought that caravans were for old retired people. How wrong was I! When We finally headed off on our first trip I fell in love with parking up and going exploring and not worrying about getting dressed up, what time you have to have meals, sharing bathrooms. So off we went Caravanning in the Yorkshire Dales.
We try to get out with the caravan as much as possible. To make it affordable (as visiting and going to new places can be quite expensive) we try and go on rallies when we can. The total for 3 nights stay on this site was just £29. Rallying is no thrills camping but every bit as fantastic! We took our own food for meals, played loads of board games, walked a lot, watched films and ate ice cream from the local town. I always used to think caravanning would be a very expensive hobby but once you have your caravan and all the essentials it’s very reasonable. We get to see the most beautiful places in the UK and when we are allowed the plan is to jump on some ferries and explore parts of Europe like the Dordogne in France, Naples in Italy (for the Pizza) and even head back to the stunning Slovenia which we previously visited a couple of years ago with our friends Heidi + Wayne. You can see that blog post here.
Last Bank Holiday weekend we headed off on a rally with the Yorkshire Dales Centre of the Caravan and Motorhome Club. Paul headed off with Fearne straight after school and I headed up in my trusty little car after I finished my day working for the NHS. This rally was in a cute little village called Whittington just down the road from Kirkby Lonsdale. It was on a piece of farmland that had the most beautiful views of Whernside and Ingleborough from our caravan. We cooked all our meals on the Cadac, which we absolutely LOVE! Dodged the rain (we are in the UK after all) and we had a visit from our niece and nephew who we haven’t seen in over 18 months.
All in all, it was a fantastic weekend and we loved using our R6’s for personal memories.
Here are a few from the weekend from Caravanning in the Yorkshire Dales.
