AUDREY + ANDREW

Audrey + Andrew’s Falkland Estate Wedding took place last summer in Scotland.  The best thing EVER about Scottish weddings is the fact that you are legally able to get married anywhere you like including the outdoors.  Something we believe should be allowed for all English weddings and Welsh weddings.

Andrew and the boys got ready at home in Audrey + Andrew’s beautiful quirky and stylish house.  Audrey + Andrew are so creative and love anything unusual just like Paul + Kelly, it was like walking into a house Pinterest dream!  Once Andrew had given Kelly a guided tour and she had swooned over the whole house the guys sat down for breakfast together before wrapping kilts, hanging sporrans and tucking sgian-dubh’s into socks for the wedding.  Audrey spent the morning at her parents home where they relaxed, had fun and dressed the dogs up with flowers in her hair.  Audrey opted for a very beautiful Mooshki tea length wedding dress after struggling to choose her wedding dress (check out Love My Dress for Audrey’s fantastic version of events when wedding dress shopping)

It was one of the first weddings for the Falkland estate with the wedding ceremony being held in a old ruined Chapel with no roof. It just looked absolutely stunning as the sun shone down on the ancient ruins. The reception took place just down the hill in 3 very beautifully decorated tipis. The ceremony was non religious which included a traditional tying of the knot ceremony.  This is the first tying of the knot ceremony we have witnessed and it was so interesting.  Audrey’s family tartan and Andrew’s family tartan was draped over both their hands by the celebrant and they were asked to hold the tartan and walk away from each other and the tartan’s were knotted together.

The rain held off until just after the ceremony and we all managed to take the short walk to the Tipis before the heavens opened.  Audrey + Andrew had planned to have all their formal and couple pictures taken just after the ceremony but with the downpour of rain it wasn’t possible. Every wedding day we constantly check the weather app on our phones to see if and when there might be a break in the weather.  On this particular day it was scheduled to rain until just one hour before sunset.  We mentioned this to Audrey + Andrew and asked for all the group images and their wedding portraits to be done after the meal.  It was risky just leaving one hour before sunset and hoping that the weather app was correct but A+A trusted our judgement and my GOSH it paid off massively.  We had the most beautiful golden light both for group photos and for their couple portraits.  These two absolutely show their love and affection for each other but also show their fun and playful side of their relationship by having a sticky bud fight in the process, you know the ones you used to throw in the hair of your mates when you were kids. We secretly think Andrew regretted throwing a whole branch of them into Audrey’s wedding styled hair but she just laughed it off and plotted her revenge.

Massive thanks to Audrey + Andrew for asking us to come to Scotland to shoot their Falkland Estate Wedding.  We had the most amazing time with you all and truly fell in love with Scotland once again.

We will leave you with this advice from Audrey: “Do it your way and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! You know what you want. When we told our guests were getting married outside we were asked countless times, ‘Oh but, what if it rains?’. Carry a brolly and stand under it!
